I get that musou feeling to them where they don't really feel like they're connecting. Yeah, something about the weapons do feel off. It took me 50 hours in to get an actual suit of armor and you don't even get a helmet to go along with it so it just makes your body look fat. Its like the game's costumes are taken from an Abercrombie and Fitch catalog.
Most of the jackets don't have undershirts and only button up at the top so you can see your bellybutton on most of them.

I like the new direction the series is going and while it's still in it's growing pains, I much prefer the overall experience to that shitfest in GE.ĭon't even get me started on the armor. Weapons are a bit more unique this time around, the new ones are cool and the open world really helps it separate itself from MH. Thankfully, in my short time with Toukiden 2, most of those problems are fixed. Toukiden 1's gameplay is pretty dull and stale and a shitty copy of MH, with a completely obtuse Mitama system and some half-baked ideas. On the other hand, Toukiden has a really comfy and emotional story that doesn't dip too far into your typical Japanese melodrama. The padding in the game is insane and it isn't helped by the fact that most of the padding consists of the same kongou-type monsters you fought in the first 4 hours of the game. There is a point where someone is in the hospital who needs to give you some crucial information, but for some retarded reason she can't just tell you everything at once, instead you have to go on something like 5 filler missions in a row just to wait for her to recover. I spent 50+ hours in GE2 just clawing my way out of low rank because of how much sheer filler is in the game.
I really can't recommend GE to any but the most masochistic or desperate MH players because of how hard it is to get through the forced story. Almost every cutscene had me screaming at the screen because of just how baffling it was, like none of the music matching the scene with bombastic choir and orchestral strings playing during the most inappropriate places. I had to drop 1 once I realized it was literally Char's Counterattack 2.0 and although I beat 2, it's plot is literally the worst thing I've ever had to sit through. I still can't believe how bad it is after all these years. God Eater has better combat mechanics (barely) but an absolutely horrid and baffling story that will make you want to pull your hair out in places.
